Radiographic film digitizers are such a low-profile piece of equipment that most digitizer manufacturers do not even sell them directly to end users. They are more commonly bundled as part of a picture archiving and communications system (PACS) vendor package or sold through the company that provides the software and hardware that the digitizer must have in order to transmit an electronic image. A digitizer without its front-end application is like a printer without a computer. It just sits there and nothing happens.
By digitally archiving old film, you can recover valuable storage space within your medical facility.
By using the DICOM Modality Work list feature, you can automatically transfer patient demographic information from a HIS/RIS system to the digitizer. This eliminates the need to re-enter data, avoids time-consuming data entry errors and improves overall productivity.
